Bad Luck? What Bad Luck?

Yes it's at 7 but the poster kills the Friday The 13th poster.

Friday The 13th and its devastatingly clever marketing idea (releasing it on Friday the 13th...wow superb originality, didn't The Omen remake do something like that three years ago?). Well it worked and despite the following day being the lovers day of the year it reaches number 1 in the US Box Office with a take of $42.2m.

To be honest I haven't watched it but the trailer is embarrassing and I am sick and tired of classic 70's and 80's horror movies being remade. Michael Bay produced? Why? Shouldn't you be doing Transformers 2 Michael? Idiocy.

Actually I wish I'd gone to see it on Valentines Day instead of the laughably risible He's Just Not That Into You. I remember saying this didn't look bad. HAHA. It is shockingly bad. Apart from Justin Long's story it is completely pointless. Scarlett, Jennifer, Drew and Jennifer are too good for this. Aniston wasn't so bad amazingly but Affleck was so pitiful that his great work on Gone Baby Gone has been dented. And 129 minutes for a rom-com?! This isn't Love Actually. This is a movie devoid of emotion, feeling and very sparse in terms of comedy. Terrible direction coupled with a largely irrelevant multi-stranded storyline make this the worst rom-com I've ever seen...and I've seen a lot of them. Anyway it made $19.6m to jump to $55.1m overall. I've already stopped 25 people going to see it and I'm still counting...take that Hollywood!

Sorry for that angry rant but I do hate wasted talent. I mean Jennifer Connelly you played the same role in Little Children so much better and that was because Little Children said more about relationships than that crap ever did. Even The Last Kiss did!

Continuing with the Box Office chart then... At 3 we have Taken and a healthy total $77.9m ($19.2m). Well done Neeson. I will definitely be purchasing this on DVD, great fun.

Confessions Of A Shopaholic had a slightly disappointing opening of $15.4m but considering the dire reviews it isn't that bad. Isla Fisher is instantly likeable but the film looks weak, maybe worth a look if you've got time to burn. It can't be worse than the other rom-com at 2.

Coraline took $15, to rise to $35.5m. Er yeah um well moving on...

Paul Blart Mall Cop moved to a mammoth $110m ($11.7m). Is it just me or is that a phenomenal figure for a film with the fat bloke out of I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. Is he really that big? Would love to know.

The International makes a paltry $10m in its opening weekend. That is a shame because it has the two of the most talented actors in Hollywood in Naomi Watts and Clive Owen. I am looking forward to its UK release but you have to question its release in the US over Valentines Day and the horror date of the year (apart from Halloween).

The Pink Panther 2 somehow stole $9m to add to the already bloated $22.3m. Steve Martin should be arrested, it's a recession.

The much over-hyped Slumdog Millionaire moves to a gigantic $86.5m ($7.15m). Seriously, although it was classily directed it lacked a real feel good factor and was dull at the end and long. Great backstory was let down by a shabby conclusion and present day storyline. Also the ending was so ill-judged and ridiculous that the whole film felt like a let down. Looks like the new Crash for Oscar and their ability to boost an average film to godlike status.

Holding up the rear is Push ($6.93m) moving to $19.3m for what looks like the last week in the top 10.

Well this is has been more like a review of films I have hated and not been impressed by but the facts are in there among the vitriol!

On a final note here in the UK, The Secret of Moonacre directed by Gabor Csupo (Rugrats creator and helmer of the rather brilliant Bridge To Terabithia) struggles into number 7 with a horrific £308,099. A $27m budget does not bode well for this film! Mr Fantastic Ioan Gruffud and the girl out of Golden Compass must be worried with this as it took the worst average of the top 10 with £848 over 363 screens (a lot over here in the UK). Frankly though it is odd that these Narnia-esque movies get made. Studios baffle me sometimes.

And on that note I'm off to watch Adaptation and forget about something with Not in the title.
