Yes the 81st academy award nominations were announced this morning and as usual there are nice surprises and crushing disappointments, heres the full list courtesy of TotalFilm.
Initial reactions:
Best Picture - nice to see Slumdog up but something tells me Benjamin Button could probably walk away with it due to the 12 other nominations it's received. Best Director, again would be nice to see Slumdog walk away with the award and i'm suprised Aronofsky didn't get a nomination after The Wrestler. I thought Richard Jenkins would be overlooked for the Visitor so it's nice to see him nominated, seems pretty much in the bag for Micky Rourke but Im still hoping Jenkins steals it. Angelina Jolie was great in Changeling but Kate Winslet seems like a shoe in. As usual Heath Ledger up for supporting actor with Robert Downey Jnr for Tropic Thunder, that ones pretty strange, its like the oscars are an aging grandfather thats trying to be cool. anyway good to see Hellboy 2 up for best make up, surprised to see Wanted receiving so many.
