Before we tell you here's a bit of background to the project that you will know if you've been keeping up with the news and have absolutely no idea if you simply do not give a sh&t. Seth Rogen is set to star in a film remake of The Green Hornet, the popular masked crime fighter that made his first appearance on radio in the 1930's (I wont go into to much detail as this will inevitably be part of our never ending series 'Films based on a t.v. series.') The film series of the 40's were popular but the thing that gives the character notoriety is the T.V. series in the late 60's which introduced America to Bruce Lee who played his sidekick Kato.
The new film has a bit of history now as well, originally meant to be tackled by the Apatow gang in a kind of homage parody similar to Akroyd's Dragnet, the project looked to be picking up with the news that Stephen Chow would be directing and starring as Kato, with Rogen as the Hornet. Then about a week ago Chow stated that he would not direct but still star as Kato, TheHollywoodReporter has the new that the new director is...
Michel Gondry! Yes the famous french director responsible for the brilliant Eternal Sunshine Of the Spotless Mind is set to helm the project which is both a strange and brilliant choice. This project has suddenly started to sound interesting instead of just another run of the mill action comedy, no doubt the film will hugely benefit from Gondry's unique visual styles and approach to narratives. Hopefully the film will do better than Be Kind Rewind, which still amazes me how people can dislike it, one of my favorite films of the year. Gondry has been busy of late with different projects, he directs one segment in the omnibus film Tokyo! which might get a very limited release soon, here's the trailer
No doubt this film will somehow be interesting and if you stayed away from Be Kind Rewind because of the negative reviews you are missing out. Below is one of the Music videos from the recent episode of Flight Of The Conchords which Gondry directed, Enjoy!
although this is probably a better example of Gondry's style (from the same episode)
