Tyler Perry Shows That Some Things Never Change

Well, well, well. Tyler Perry has a another number one hit with Madea Goes To Jail. $41m. In a weekend. And that is all I will say on the matter. Apart from that it will contain life lessons, love, melodrama and a large bucket of sugar poured on top.

Coraline is in at two with $11.4m ($53.8m). Must mean a lot of adults want to see it as the animation doesn't look particularly kid friendly. I sound horribly patronising so I'll just add that some kids will like it as it is darker and more interesting than half of Dreamworks output.

Taken takes $11.3m to move up to $95m. Nearly at the $100m mark. Impressive performance from Neeson and the king of action movies set in France Luc Besson. I'm delighted to see this doing so well. Wanted was fantastic fun and this is just as much with a great script and a classy turn from Neeson.

$8.56m ($70.1m). For that film I'm Just Not That Into.

Slumdog will reach $100m comfortably after the Oscar victory. It took $8.38m to climb up to $98.4m and I expect it to take in a similar if not better amount next week.

Friday The 13th sucked up $7.94 ($55.1m) of cash to slash its way to 6. I apologise for the appalling puns. Anyway it's really bad and not worth seeing. Go rent the old classic instead and while you're at it rent Last House On The Left as well because the remake of that is out soon and it will be terrible. Naturally.

Inexplicably Paul Blart Mall Cop gets a healthy $6.82m to reach a whopping $121m. Wow the recession is not hitting Kevin James's pockets.

Confessions Of A Shopaholic dies slowly into a $27.4m overall take after a poor weekend of $6.74m. To be honest though it isn't much of a surprise. I mean we have a world recession and they release a filmn about someone who can't stop spending money on clothes??!!

SAomething called Fired Up makes number 9. Oh that film about teenagers going to Cheerleader camp and it has the genius cover of FU. Yeah I've been looking forward to that since last year. Yeah. No, not really. Anyway it made $5.48m and it will be fired from next weeks top 10...I really do need to stop punning...

The International $4.46m ($17m) is a real shame as it is has been unfairly blocked off a bigger take by the painfully average comedies out right now. Watts and Owen deserve a lot better. Could be aa DVD sleeper slow burner type of thing so watch it and then say 'Yeah I saw that ages ago...!'

As for the UK Box Office, well it is dull. Bolt thunders to the top while My Bloody Valentine has somehow made £6,329,035m. Phenomenal to be honest, I mean people really have way too much time on their hands. To conclude Slumdog has nearly closed in on £20m and Hotel for Dogs and Notorious opened with £1m plus takings. Seriously though the Box Office on both sides of the pond needs to get it act together. We want some excitement and some proper movies to discuss.

Watchmen cannot come soon enough. MARCH 6. WATCH IT.
