Another Tomb Raider?

Warner Bros' have acquired the film rights properly this time (Watchmen) to the Tomb Raider Game series. The rights reverted back to the game developers Eidios after Paramount had a good crack at two films and with a new deal Warner Bros picked it up. The new film is meant to be a straight re-boot changing the character, actors, style and trying to look nothing like the original films. While no one will doubt the importance of films based on video games; this year saw the triumphant Max Payne, the cinematic In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Taleand the riveting Postal, these American classics … nah I can’t be bothered, the main question is looking at these films and the other horrendous films based on video games I can’t see this being a good idea at all. The first Tomb Raider was pretty successful grossing about $275 million worldwide the second film Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life underperformed with $156 million, with the reboot formula Angelina Jolie will not be coming back to the role and I can’t see anyone else being able to sell the film as much as she did. Although a couple of suggestions of possible Lara Crofts sound alluring Total Film suggest Megan Fox, Rhona Mitra and Keira Knightley but with the economic crisis the way it is and the combined budget of the two previous films being well over $200 million dollars is this really the time to make a video game film of a series that has a track record of not delivering?

but on the other side I’ve only seen the first one and it was ages ago and looking at the poster maybe it deserves another watch.

What do you think?
