Paul Blart At Number 1 again.


Box Office Report -  January 26th 2009

Not much change in the U.S. box office this week, Kevin James' Paul Blart: Mall Cop was on top again this week adding $21.6 mil* to bring its total for two weeks up to almost $65 mil. The newest Underworld Film Rise of the Lycans was at number two with nearly $21 million. Gran Torino is still doing solid business at number 3 with just over $16 million meaning it will have broken over a hundred million dollars by next week. Hotel for Dogs moves up a place and adds $12.8 mil to take its two week total to $37 mil, the constant award acknowledgement and expanding release for Slumdog Millionaire moves it up five spaces and also doubles its gross from last week earning nearly $11 million and taking its total to $56 million. My Bloody Valentine takes in another $10 mil and the other new entry Inkheart makes a disappointing debut with $7.6 million, Bride Wars at 8 making $6.8 million taking its total to about $48 million. Benjamin Button although nabbing 13 oscar nominations has still yet to turn a profit from its $150 million budget, the film made just over $6 million this week and has a domestic total of $111 million so far and its worldwide gross is only about $134 million. rounding off at number ten is Notorious making $5.7 mil with a total of nearly $32 million.


Next weekend sees the release of The Uninvited, the new horror starring Elizabeth Banks and David Strathaim, also coming out next week is Taken from the director of District B-13 which stars Liam Neeson as an ex CIA agent trying to retrieve his kidnapped daughter in France. Renee Zellweger's latest romantic comedy New in Town is also released next friday and The Class, french nominee for Best foreign film at the academy awards gets a limited release.
