“Stallone gave me a part in his next movie," he told us. "But I ask him about the subject, about the story." "He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be." "[Stallone said:] 'You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.' [So I said:] 'Sly, what is my character?' So I didn’t do the movie."
TotalFilm recently got to speak to Jean Claude Van Damme during the U.K. press tour for the release of his 'rebirth' movie JCVD. The big question on every ones minds was why is he not joining the Über 80's cast in Stallone's new mercenary film the Expendables which stars past and present action icons Dolph Lundgren, Micky Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Ben Kingsley, Sylvester Stallone and is rumored to feature Sandra Bullock as well.
Here is an excerpt from the 3 page interview/article that will feature in their new issue:
Riveting, even though this does not put me off wanting to see The Expendables it does make me think that maybe it wont be quite the action movie pinnacle that i was expecting and instead will be absolute balls to the wall mindless fun and it is nice to see Van Damme taking his resurgence seriously, check out an article on his next project Eagle's Path.
